    1. That’s sadly not true…they mate while she’s expecting then he takes off. You’ll see her, the feminist that she is, leading her ducklings around teaching them how to be. We have several sets in Central every spring.

Swans, on the other hand, mate for life…like lions and dolphins. Wonder how they decide. Nature…she’s an enigma alright. πŸ™‚

      1. Dang. We can pretend whilst they are captured together, right? And of course, we females don’t officially *NEED a man to function… but a little help would be nice once and again, eh?

Nature is indeed an enigma. Why some species are floozies and others are faithful πŸ˜‰

  1. HOW I LOVE THIS DALE…You have no idea how much I look forward to their mating season in Central Park, how the male follows the female around like a feathered knight, as she prepares for her ducklings. He doesn’t stick around though turning into an absentee father, but we fantasize that dad writes often while he’s away.

Nature caught on film is a glorious thing. Susannah

    1. Thank you so much, Susannah!

I go to that little “river” periodically and hope they will be there and hold on to Zeke so he doesn’t spook them before I manage to capture them. Yes, it would be nice to think he is writing whilst he is away πŸ˜‰

      So very glad you enjoy.

      1. Repeat away. It’s the best kind of gift because it is personal and from the heart and required a little effort (like giving homemade goodies, which I enjoy to give…)

  2. From what I found online today, most birds tend to be shameless in the ‘floosie’ department. Sheesh, you’d think it was the 80’s they way they carry one with every Tom, Dick or Harry. πŸ˜†Guess that’s one way to expand the gene pool. Eagles, whooping cranes and certain swans seem to the only ones (at least in North America) to stay mated for life.

    1. I tell ya… floosies rule. Seriously, why stick with one when there are so many to choose from πŸ˜‰
Though, there is something to be said for having that steady one that you an count on… πŸ˜‰
