So sorry for my tardiness. You know when you think you’ve done something and then someone says something and then you realise you didn’t do you something? Well, that’s my story…
As a treat, if you click here, you can hear the bells (well part of it) as I had the good fortune of being there at noon on a Saturday.
[…] Wednesday (usually much earlier than this), I post a Wordless Wednesday over on Sorryless. I have been doing a Church series of sorts and was lucky enough to decide to photograph the […]

Q,
That’s the story of my life.
As for the double feature, sweet steeples this is a dish best served whenever you feel like serving it! I love steeples. They are the last remnants of a long since forgotten time when architecture wasn’t measured by specs, but rather by its innate ability to inspire. Before the world got so full of its selfies, peeps were treated to the aesthetic value of structures such as these.
Once again, you’ve captured the majestic value of these blessed venues.
Brava!

B,
I was up and making coffee, chatting with Rochelle and suddenly I realised SHIT! It’s Wednesday and I didn’t schedule! I had started going through my shots but then something came up and well….
Anyhoo, I’m here now and am awfully glad you enjoyed the double feature. I love steeples, too. This church became a basilica minor by pontifical decree from Pope John Paul II…
Thank you, my friend and thanks for not rapping my on my knuckles for being late 😉

Buahahahahaha! That’ll teach you for not scheduling it, 😉
I find the pontifical decree is so much more impressive than the old run of the mill decree. But hey, that’s just me. And well, the Pope too.
I rap. Just not on knuckles.

Seriously. The worst part is that I was all prepared to do it MONDAY, then I thought, nah, Marc’s gonna write a Tuesday post so he’ll see the pic(s) in the media section so I’ll wait. Bravo, Rogerson, Bravo.
Well hey. I mean when the Pope comes to visit your little town and then blesses and gives such a decree… you gots ta be impressed.
Uh huh. Next time we chat, you gonna do a bit for me?

I try never to look, so I would have averted my eyes. I like to be surprised, so don’t fret on that .
Yeah, when the Pope comes to town, it’s kind of a big deal.
I can do a bit, LOL

I tease. But I also know you like to be surprised so I try not to force you to avert your eyes. I’m considerate like that.
Ya think?
I wanna hear!!

Love the fact that the 2 pics of the same place look so different!

That’s why I had to include the second one, even if the tree is “in the way”…

Thank you, Monika. I was coming home from having my tires changed by my brother-in-law and I turned around when I remembered I wanted to take pictures of this church! Glad I did…

It’s a beautiful building. Sometimes those serendipity moments are the best.

Indeed. And would you believe it is the fourth church built on that section of land? They tore down the third one when they realised their attempts at making it larger were causing problems to the structure itself.

Whoa! That’s unreal.

Yep… plus it’s been declared a Basilica Minor by Pope John Paul II…

How majestic is all I can say. Makes me want to run to St. Pats that looks very much the same. I especially like the 2 different angles same as Frank. It’s like a pretty girl looking in a two-way mirror to see how she looks from the side. You’re so talented Dale. I think that every time I see one of your photos. YOU ROCK!!!

Here’s the info: This is the fourth church built on this spot, the first one being in 1692, the second in 1718 (both being very modest) and the third in 1780. in 1849 they added to the the sides which made it unsafe so they tore it down in 1884. This present church was finished in 1887 and was named a Bascilica Minor by pontifical decree of Pope John Paul II.
So very glad you like both angles, and, you can see the other side and hear the bells (what I managed to capture) if you click on the “here” above. I would have included the bells here but Marc’s blog does not support MP4’s…

You almost don’t have to hear it, to hear it. It’s that visual. Thanks for the history. You know hoe much I love that. 🙂
