This reminds me of a film set, how the house is lit. And it’s so coiffed, like a Stepford House. I’m waiting for a robotic woman in a shirtwaist to tottle out with a tray of hors d’oeuvres. It also reminds me of a dollhouse, the one I never had as a kid and sometimes, in a moment of insanity, want to go buy now.
Your photography never fails to evoke a panoply of visions.
That’s why it stood out so on my walk. It feels so out of place compared to its surroundings. Actually, day or night, I’m brought to a stop to admire it. It has a lovely water garden in summer as well… Just a pretty well-kept place.
I love miniatures. And that’s what that house reminds me. Just a big version. There’s a dollhouse store in the 70s I like to go to. Takes everything I have not to buy one that I can decorate with tiny things. That little deprived girl in me leads me there.
Good eyes. Simple pics with much to make it good β¦ the lighting on the house, the rounded curb, the street lights, the glow in the night sky. Simply put, the more I looked at it, the more I liked it.
What strikes me is the rounded curb. It’s very unusual and it keeps at me, in spite of the peaceful mood of the photograph. And then it hits me, that this capture appears as if you have snapped a real life snow globe.
The pine tree standing tall in the foreground, the fallen snow that makes the street feel like a winter wonderland for reals, the lit house that takes on the appearance of something straight out of a classic holiday tale.
Mind you, there is so much else to this. Like the streetlights that get your eyes following them all the way down the avenue. They stretch so long AND high that you have the idea they are lighting up the sky in front of you.
That is EXACTLY what grabbed me at first. I was worried I cropped it too much and would lose that curve and I love that you see it as a snow globe! So cool.
It’s so funny, I took more than one angle but this one is the one that said.. Yes.
It’s that element of suspension, the illusion that the house exists on a totally different plain. It really does give me that idea of being inside a snow globe. The curve helps to set it, and then you have the pine, and all set up by the way in which you have framed it.
That says double yes. And here! And this one! And cheese!
So glad you do, Eilene!
During my walk last night, I could not help but look at that house and ended up turning back. The curve of the street (that I was afraid to crop out just added a certain something).
Nothing pleases me more than when others agree with my choice π

As long as the evocation is a happy one – especially at this time of year… which is difficult for so many.

Miniatures blow me away… The attention to detail in such a small piece is, well, wow!
Isn’t it funny how things like this still hold our attention?

Me too. I have them here and there, including a little frog in a yoga pose a follower sent me. I just love him. Takes so little to float my boat.

Tiny gestures. Small figures. Dwarfs, kittens, Jell-O shots. How did they get in there.

Hahaha! Christmas, I’m blaming… course, just coz you are on the right path, doesn’t mean you can’t remember little things like Jell-O shots…

I love winter scenes like this. Marcβs snow globe is a perfect description, and the way the street lights draw the eye back. Wonderful pic!
