Looks so much like the Rambles in Central Park, the wildness of it. It’s the one section with the exception of picking up litter, left alone allowed to grow at will.
I love that stream of sun, like it was backlit on purpose. I can hear Mother Nature now yelling….
START CAMERA…ACTION.
She’d be a regular Cecil B. Demille using trees and squirrels as extras.
I truly look forward to your photos Dale since they always uplift, and as a friend of mine likes to say…we artists aspire to inspire, something you do without fail. 🙂
So here’s what happened. I was trolling through old photographs as the rain came down (only lasted three minutes) slowly the sun appeared and I could see my otherwise ugly lawn (I refuse to water) lit up like gold. Grabbed my camera and tried to capture it. Wasn’t working out, so I took the hanging leaves from a couple of my trees. The sun came back and I went back out there, only this time, I lay down on my stomach!
I honestly hesitated about using these and I got my sons to pick their fave and since neither one chose the same, I chose another! So glad I was able to capture that stream of sun without it washing out the rest.
I love that you love my photos, Susannah, and I swear you are inadvertently pushing me to try stuff! I do aspire to inspire so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for saying so.
If you saw just how ugly my front lawn is… I am beyond pleased that, with the sun’s help, I was able to turn something ugly into something rather lovely!
I had more than my share of the sun the last eight days, thank you, very much. Our temps were in the nineties with a humidex which made it feel like 105, give or take 😀
I was gong to offer a weed and feed suggestion but I thought it might be a tad rude in case it was your lawn. I’m gald I held my suggestion to myself. Oops I just spilled it to you.
Buahahaha! No worries, my friend. I am anti-water and weed and feed. I am going to slowly transform my front yard into a xeriscape – because I refuse to water, I might as well plant something that requires none. I just have to take into consideration that I have two HUGE maple trees that will divest themselves of their leaves come autumn so… removing them might prove to be “interesting”…
But I do thank you 😉
Rock on!! It is smart, ecological and let’s face it, when it is well done, requires little maintenance.
And I know you have that lovely grass (I do love plush grass) for the girls. You need the coolness it brings.
It does! If you saw how dry and yellow and patchy my grass is! That rain gave it a little sparkle and the sun well, performed magic, I say!
I had to lie down on my stomach to get this!
Yay! Coz I got wet lying on my belly taking them 😉
We got our pitiful amount of rain (3 minutes’ worth) then the sun came out and turned my sad lawn into gold. So I rushed out, tried various shots, it disappeared off the ground and behind the leaves (so I took those – might show up next week) went back inside. Sun cam back out and then I decided to get to the right level 😉
From this angle, my lawn doesn’t look quite so ugly 😉
It must have rained during the night – and I didn’t hear it. But don’t think it is enough. They have cancelled all fireworks for the St. Jean Baptiste holiday that is today for fear of causing fires. We had over 8 days of extremely high temps.
They freak both dogs out and I’m not keen on them either since I was injured with an errant fireworks show in the 80’s. They also seem louder which add to all of our distress. #notafan
Norman totally goes nuts and acts like he’s about to stroke out. Poor thing. Nothing worse than seeing a large dog freaking out. I’ll be dosing everyone with CBD I suspect to keep anxiety levels down.
Too many people set them off in my neighborhood. It’s like being in a war zone. They drive to the Wyoming state line to buy hard core fireworks (despite their being illegal in the city) and then set them off in the backyard. WTH?
It’s poetry in pictures. Because it makes me think of Walt Whitman’s works, and how a blade of grass can feel like its own little universe when you look deep inside and really study the thing. That’s how this capture seems to resonate with me. And then the sun comes in and creates a melodic dance as a result.
It’s so funny. My grass is in the saddest state it could possibly be. We get three minutes of rain and then the sun comes out and I had a golden carpet. So out I went with camera in hand. Nope. Couldn’t quite capture it so I focused on leaves on the trees (you might see next week). Went back in and the sun comes out again and this time, I lie down on my stomach and then the magic happens (or I hope it does)
The capture definitely brings out another part of it, gives it a wholly different life even. And the sun most definitely provides that magical hue that makes us think in poetic terms.
Dude. Sun glowing. This is a nice shot! Was this at sunrise? Always a good time of day to take pics, sunset too. Feels like a quiet moment. The kind every parent needs throughout the day.

It’s what art’s all about. That stream of sun, I’ll say again, changed it all. Those leaves never looked so dazzling. 🙂

That stream of sun is IT. Without it, all you’d a seen was dried up fugly grass patches! 😉

I so agree Rochelle. She has no idea how good she is. Her modesty though, does her credit since, it makes it even better.

The deer seem to like the rocks out front too. Gives them a level of warmth in the winter.

I did get ash in my eye one year when we went to the annual competition which have been blessedly cancelled this year.
